Holiday Gift Guide 2024: Brodinkee x StrapHabit “Men Wear Pink” 2024 Campaign

Support a great cause and get an awesome strap

This year at the Watch Clicker, I will bring you a series of in-depth gift guides for the mechanically inclined. Given that inflation in the United States was recently at its worst in over forty years, we will focus on your long-term return on your hard-earned money. This means the gifts will not be the cheapest options, but they will bridge the gap between being attainable and leaving a lasting impact on the receiver.

For our second gift guide article, I would like to draw your attention to the hard work of StrapHabit’s Nick Lehner and Brodinkee with their Men Wear Pink campaign, in which the total cost of the straps and the campaign will be donated to cancer research. You can partake in the campaign by purchasing one of the straps here, and I will go over the people behind the campaign and why one or more of these straps will be the perfect gift for the watch lover in your life.

Based in Ohio, the founder of StrapHabit, Nick Lehner, like many of us, has had a history of cancer impacting his life directly and indirectly. Whether it be a personal diagnosis of a close family member or that of anyone within our circles, the devastation that the emperor of all maladies incurs on all of us is immeasurable. Mr. Lehner became personally involved with local Movember campaigns in 2020, a year after following his own confirmed diagnosis. Mr. Lehner won an Oris as a part of a local watch dealer’s Movember campaign, and after he shared his experience on Facebook, he found that it significantly impacted those who read his post. This Oris timepiece became a beacon of luck and hope during the many cancer screenings that were to come.

StrapHabit had gained quite a fair deal of public support and patronage the following year, so Mr. Lehner decided to use his platform to better the cause against cancer. He bought a new Movember edition Oris himself and ran a campaign to give it away to one participating member who donated to the Movember campaign. At this point, he partnered with Brodinkee, who had been running his Men Wear Pink campaign the month before, to support each other’s campaigns.

If you are like me and were unfamiliar with Brodinkee before this article, you may not be too active on Instagram or within the watch enthusiast culture. Since 2019, Brodinkee has been posting humorous memes poking fun at the industry, watch collectors, himself and other watch enthusiasts. Over the years, his memes have brought laughter to many group chats as he either brings joy through his insights or by saying what we are all thinking in his unique way.

In the following year, Mr. Lehner’s mother was diagnosed with cancer. This instigated his formal partnership with Brodinkee as they brought a pink strap to market in which all the costs would go towards causes fighting cancer. The two would then also go on to partner with the American Cancer Society. Many companies market their charitable efforts and are vague about how much money goes to the cause they are supporting. This creates a lot of consumer apathy; rightly so; clarity and transparency were one of the campaign’s goals. Mr. Lehner wanted to raise a sizeable amount of money, so it was decided that the total costs of the straps and the results speak for themselves. The two raised over $10,000 in their first year, doubling that in 2023. So far this year (at the time of writing), they have raised over $13,000.

The straps have all been stunning, with StrapHabit reworking the pink strap every year and offering the customer something new. Opting to offer his most popular strap in a more vibrant pink, the FKM strap also comes with a stout deployant buckle. The FKM strap provides many advantages over other rubber straps. They are highly durable, resistant to chemical and heat damage, and do not pick up nearly as much lint and other particles as silicone or vulcanized rubber. It should be noted that I purchased and received one of these straps, which are manufactured to a very high level. There are no inconsistencies in my example, and the texture of the rubber is highly refined. What surprised me the most was how flexible and comfortable these straps are. Due to time constraints, I could not photograph my received strap, so every photograph you see here in this article was supplied by StrapHabit.

We recommend buying two straps for the watch enthusiast in your life—a 20mm and 22mm strap. These two measurements are the most common among watches on the market today. Because of their quick-release spring bars, the recipient can easily wear these straps on almost their collection. The straps are sold for $49 USD; as mentioned before, all that money goes towards fighting cancer.
